Jopling 1925 Quote:
Other Quotations:'Mrs Romer exhibits several able portraits, "Beatrice" (65) and "Therese" (83). The same artist's "She sleeps! My Lady Sleeps!" (44), is a charming srudy of a brunette indulging in a siesta on an amber-coloured couch' (PC bk1, The Echo, Oct 25, 1873) 'Among the pictures that are portraits, or that seem to be so, may be noted Mr Piper's "Helen"- a graceful head bathed in golden light - and the "Beatrice," "My Lady Sleeps," and "Theresa," of Mrs Romer, the last a good example of the artit's command of expression and suggestiveness of execution.' (PC bk1, The Graphic, 1873) 'Mrs L. Romer's She Sleeps (44), a damsel of exuberant contours, sleeping characteristically on a couch, shows much true sense of colour, marred by the lack of refinement and delicacy in aranging its elements and in producing it by handling; the picture is too coarse in all respects to be entirely agreeable' (PC bk1, The Athenaeum, 1873) 'The heads and single figures show character; for example Beatrice and My Lady Sleeps, by Mrs. Romer (44, 65)' (Pc bk 1, The [?])
